FanDuel Potentially Landing On ESPN’s Streaming Platform

FanDuel Sports Networks could soon find a new home on ESPN’s upcoming streaming platform, as reports suggest a bundle between the two media giants.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Main Street Sports Group, formerly known as Diamond Sports and the operator of FanDuel Sports Network’s regional channels, is in discussions to integrate its streaming service with ESPN’s direct-to-consumer platform set to launch later this year.

The potential partnership comes at a crucial time for ESPN, which recently opted out of its Major League Baseball (MLB) contract.

Analysts have raised concerns about ESPN’s ability to retain subscribers during the summer months without baseball programming, making a deal with FanDuel Sports Networks a strategic move to maintain engagement.

For FanDuel Sports Networks, an ESPN collaboration could provide much-needed stability and expanded distribution, where many MLB teams are currently operating on short-term agreements with FanDuel Sports Networks following Diamond Sports’ bankruptcy last year.

Aligning with ESPN could secure more long-term deals and offer the financial backing needed to compete with MLB’s ambitions of consolidating local broadcast rights into a national package.

Currently, FanDuel Sports Networks are available as an add-on to Amazon Prime Video for USD$19.99 per month.

While the exact structure of an ESPN bundle remains unclear, a potential integration could reshape the way sports fans access regional MLB coverage.
