he Coaches Coach Season 2 was officially launched today by Ministry of Sport, with former Australian men’s cricket head coach, and director and owner of Buchanan Success Coaching, John Buchanan, hosting Ironman legend, Trevor Hendy.
In episode one, Buchanan and Hendy talk about how Hendy got involved in Nippers at a young age and how he managed to develop a competitive streak despite a fear of competition from a young age, leading into becoming one of the most successful Surf Ironmen of all time.
Speaking to Ministry of Sport about what it was like chatting with Hendy for Coaches Coach Season 2, Buchanan said the discussions are relevant for anyone involved in sports business.
“If you are looking for life, sport, business tips and advice, you get the lot in Coaches Coach,” Buchanan told Ministry of Sport.
“Season 2 is no different as Trevor Hendy outlines so eloquently and so humbly his philosophies which have seen him deal with all the difficult questions we face in everyday life and find a way to solve these and create a niche in surfing Ironman history for himself at the same time.
“Anyone who occupies a leadership role in an organisation should always be looking how to improve their leadership and so ultimately the performance of their business.
“Coaches Coach Season 2 adds to the rich array of tips, insights, knowledge, and experiences that were provided by Justin Langer (current Australian men’s cricket head coach) in Season 1,” he said.
Discussing how the Coaches Coach series connects to his own professional project, Buchanan Success Coaching, Buchanan said: “My business is all about challenging individuals, leaders and teams to define and then chase their Everest.”
“Season 2 with Trevor Hendy shows how as a young athlete, Trevor worked out what his personal Everest was and how he went about achieving it,” he said.
Through episode one, Hendy explained his rise in surf life saving and Ironman, and how experiences on hit television show, Baywatch, and meeting Michael Jackson, shaped him into the superstar athlete he is known as today.
