The AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) has entered a two-year partnership with Everlab, Australia’s leading preventative health provider, to deliver advanced diagnostics, personalised health insights and tailored medical programs for current and retired players.
The agreement strengthens the AFLPA’s long-term commitment to athlete wellbeing, addressing the physical and mental challenges associated with elite competition and career transition.
AFLPA general manager of communications and commercial, Michael Jamison, said the shift toward preventative care is a major strategic focus.
“Preventative health has become a major priority at the AFLPA.”
“Many players leave the AFL with injuries and most without a clear roadmap for managing their health.
“This partnership fills that gap by providing structured support and personalised plans that may help our members stay healthy and confident,” Jamison said.
Chief medical officer of Everlab, Dr Steven Lu said the collaboration reflects Everlab’s mission to empower athletes with long-term health tools.
“AFL and AFLW athletes face unique health challenges during and after their careers.”
This partnership makes preventative health accessible and actionable, helping players sustain peak performance today and enjoy long-term wellbeing in retirement,” Lu added.
With many players departing the AFL due to injury, delisting or career transition, the loss of structured training environments often impacts long-term health. Retired athletes also frequently carry chronic injuries that require ongoing management.
The partnership reframes this challenge by shifting from reactive treatment to proactive prevention, offering members personalised tools to optimise performance and protect their health well beyond their playing careers.
Everlab will provide AFLPA members access to a suite of cutting-edge diagnostic services, including:
