Euroleague Announce New NFT Collection In First Joint Deal With Players Union

Euroleague Basketball has announced the launch of its first series of digital collectibles with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that showcase current and past moments from the league’s history.

The collection is being built and distributed by blockchain and cryptography technology company, OARO.

Euroleague developed the deal with joint-venture partner IMG as well as the Euroleague Players’ Association (ELPA), marking the first join commercial deal between the ELPA and Euroleague.

Euroleague Basketball’s chief business officer, Roser Queralto, said it was important to use technology to “connect with a new generation of fans.”

“It is very pleasing to launch our first shared initiative with the ELPA, and we will continue to work with our partners to deliver engaging and exciting content,” Queralto said.

On the collection, ELPA managing director , Bostjan Nachbar, said: “[The ELPA] have been keeping an eye on this rapidly developing technological market and its impact on the world of sports.”

“We are pleased that players will be able to actively participate in and directly impact the transition of their popularity into the growing digital environment,” he said.

The first collection will release on the 11th of June on f4nft.euroleague.net with Euroleague confirming there will be more collections in the future.

NFTs have gained traction in the sporting world recently due to the success NFT marketplace, NBA Top Shot, who are currently in strife due to a new lawsuit that claims users were “deceptively manipulated”.
