In a football first, England has announced they will host four women’s football teams in a new invitational tournament, scheduled to kick off in February 2022.

England, Germany, Spain and a fourth nation yet to be announced will come head to head in this new annual tournament, lasting for at least three years.

The women will compete across seven days in a round-robin format, consisting of six matches played as three doubleheaders.

FA’s director of women’s football, Baroness Sue Campbell, said: “This exciting new addition to the international calendar promises to further accelerate the rapid growth we are already seeing in women’s football.”

“Giving England fans the opportunity to see their team take on some of the best opposition in the world on an annual basis will create substantial interest, leading to a broader fanbase and strengthening grassroots participation.

“It will also provide the England team with the best preparation heading into the major tournaments over the next four years,” Campbell said.

The tournament is set to take place the same month as the SheBeleives Cup, with more details including venues and ticket information to be released in the upcoming weeks.
