EA and NFL Renew Multiyear Competitive Esports Deal

Expanding on a 30 year relationship, EA SPORTS and the National Football League (NFL) rejoin for EA’s Madden NFL Championship Series (MCS).

The announcement comes as the 2022 MCS competitive seasons saw a 4x increase in broadcast viewership across the year.

EA and the NFL’s Esports partnership, aligning with the MCS 23 calendar and NFL season, will see the Ultimate Madden NFL 23Bowl fall during the same week of Super Bowl LVII.

The first event of the Esports madden season is set for a September 7-9 and will broadcast under the title, Ultimate Kickoff, with the whole season offering a USD $1.7 million prize pool for competitors.

Commenting on the partnership, EA Esports vice president, Brent Koning said: “Madden NFL esports continues to deepen the love of the game with fans, players, and viewers.”

“It’s teaching viewers how to improve at the game while deepening engagement with Madden’s most loyal fanbase.”

“Since the MCS started five years ago, it has helped showcase the game by elevating the greatest players in the world, while giving every single Madden NFL player the chance to go from couch to champion. We can’t wait to see how the MCS 23 season unfolds,” he said.

NFL vice president of video gaming, Ed Kiang, added: “As a trusted partner for more than 30 years, EA’s commitment to football authenticity with Madden NFL is exemplary.”

“Extending our partnership with EA is another avenue for the League to grow fandom off the field and enhance the EA SPORTS Madden NFL Championship Series by aligning Madden competitive gaming with NFL moments.

“Our joint efforts will drive the type of excitement that NFL fans expect while also highlighting the best Madden players in the world,” Kiang added.

The extended partnership is a further development of EA’s portfolio, with title works such as FIFA, Battlefield, Apex Legends and F1.
