Dodgers Owners Agree To Buy Lakers Minority Stake

Los Angeles Dodgers owners Mark Walter and Todd Boehly have agreed to purchase a minority stake of NBA team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Sportico, the two owners are buying Phillip Anschutz’s 27% stake of the NBA team.

Anschutz is the founder of entertainment organisation, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), and owns the National Hockey League team, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Major League Soccer team, LA Galaxy, as well as a stake in the iconic Staples Center.

Walter and Boehly purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012 alongside other partners in Guggenheim Baseball Management, which included Lakers legend, Magic Johnson.

Walter is the current CEO of Guggenheim Partners, a global investment and financial services firm, while Boehly is the current CEO of Eldridge Industries and a former member of Guggenheim Partners.

Walter and Boehly are also the current owners of WNBA team, the Los Angeles Sparks having purchased the organisation in 2014.

The Lakers are valued at USD$5.14 billion (AUD$6.77 billion), making them the third highest valuation of any team in the NBA.
