Disney-owned streaming platform, Hulu, has announced it will produce an exclusive and original docuseries on the history of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Los Angeles Lakers.

The feature will have interviews with more than 35 people within the franchise, including former players and coaches, along with never-before-seen archival footage, in the nine-part series.

Emmy Award-winning director Antoine Fuqua has signed on as executive producer of the series, alongside Lakers chief executive and controlling owner, Jeanie Buss.

Speaking on the announcement, Buss said: I am thrilled that the true story of the Lakers will finally be shared with the world – and that we are in such capable hands with Hulu and Antoine, a director whose storytelling I’ve admired for years.”

Hulu vice president of original documentaries, Belisa Balaban, said the Lakers’ rich history will make the docuseries unmissable.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are one of sports’ most illustrious franchises,” Balaban said.

“Theirs is a history of epic highs and lows, and generations of legendary players and teams who have made a profound impact, not just one the sports world, but on the culture.

“We are honoured to join Jeanie, Antoine and the whole creative team to bring Hulu viewers the very real inside look at the remarkable story of the rise and fall, and rise again of the Lakers,” she said.

The series is currently untitled, but is set to hit Hulu in 2022.
