Sydney FC CEO, Danny Townsend, has announced his new role as the Australian Professional League CEO, departing Sydney FC to lead the organisation where he previously held the position of managing director.

Discussing his permanent move to the APL, Townsend said: “My role as APL CEO will enable me to put all of my efforts into ensuring Sydney FC and every A-League club reaches their full potential.”

“I look forward to building on the achievements of the past year and leading and delivering on the strategy to grow the game,” he said.

Townsend will continue in his current role until a new Sydney FC CEO is announced, transitioning to his new role once this is complete.

“I am proud to have led Sydney FC to an exceptionally strong position, with an exciting future and two world class facilities, Sky Park and the new Sydney Football Stadium, less than 12 months away,” Townsend said.

Sydney FC chairman, Scott Barlow, personally thanked Townsend for his contributions to the club.

“I would like to thank Danny for the exceptional contribution he has made to our club over the last four years,” Barlow said.

“His leadership, professionalism, dedication and passion have been central to our club’s success both on and off the field,” he said.

Recruitment for a replacement CEO is underway, with the club hoping to name a new CEO during the ongoing 2021/22 A-Leagues seasons.
