Cricket Australia’s new sponsor

ALINTA Energy has become Cricket Australia’s new national team sponsor according to a report from Fairfax.

This comes two months after Australian captain Steven Smith and batsman Cameron Bancroft admitted to ball tampering in the third test of the South African tour.

Magellan pulled the plug on its three-year $24 million sponsorship as the naming rights of domestic international cricket after the incident and Cricket Australia have been looking for a replacement ever since.

The West Australian brand joins as a shirt sponsor for all three forms of the game in a four-year deal to be announced in the coming days.

This deal coincides with Cricket Australia’s recently signed six-year TV deal, worth $1.18 billion.

The governing body had been under pressure from its corporate partners after the ball-tampering crisis with wealth management company Magellan ending a lucrative agreement one year into a three-year deal.

Qantas will continue its shirt sponsorship deal.
