Cowboys, Broncos and XXXX Launch Carl Webb Community Grant for Queensland Clubs

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, the Brisbane Broncos, and platinum partner XXXX have officially launched the Carl Webb Community Grant ‘Stronger Together’.

Unveiled ahead of Friday night’s Queensland Derby, the initiative is a collaborative effort to honour the legacy of the late Carl Webb (Cowboy #168), a figure who represented both clubs with a trademark toughness and deep community connection.

The program aims to provide vital financial support to grassroots rugby league clubs, specifically targeting regional and remote areas of Queensland that shaped Webb’s journey.

Noting that the initiative is a fitting tribute to Webb’s impact, Cowboys CEO, Micheal Luck, said: “Carl’s journey is deeply connected to both the Cowboys and Broncos, and more importantly to the regional communities that shaped him.”

“This initiative is about… ensuring his legacy continues to make a real difference,” Luck said. 

Highlighting the importance of supporting the game’s volunteers and committees, Broncos CEO, Dave Donaghy, added: “This grant is about backing the clubs and the people behind them… that build the game from the ground up.”

Direct Funding and Grant Allocation

The initiative delivers a total of $60,000 in direct funding to the Queensland rugby league ecosystem:

• Grant Structure: 12 individual grants of $5,000 each will be awarded.
• Club Contributions: The Cowboys and Broncos have each committed to funding six grants.
• Sponsor Alignment: The funding pool is matched by XXXX, further strengthening the commercial and community synergy between the three “Queensland originals.”

Scope of Support

The ‘Stronger Together’ grants are designed to address the foundational needs of community clubs. Funding will be directed toward:

• Infrastructure: Upgrades to club facilities.
• Hardware: Procurement of essential football and training equipment.
• Wellbeing: Community-led wellbeing programs connected to local rugby league clubs.

The launch coincided with the annual awarding of the Carl Webb Medal, presented to the player who best embodied Webb’s spirit during the Derby.

In a moment on field post-match, Webb’s three children, Carter, Hunter, and Brooklyn, were present to hand over the medal, further cementing the link between the elite level and the family values of the game.
