Cordeiro Runs For United States Soccer Federation

Carlos Cordeiro is officially in the running to become the United States Soccer Federation president.

“I’m running for US Soccer president because I believe that the years ahead will be the most important period in the history of our Federation and a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform soccer in America for decades to come.” Cordeiro said.

Cordeiro will compete for the position against Cindy Parlow who will be running for a second full four-year term, with the election to be held on March 5.

This comes two years after Cordeiro controversially resigned from his leadership position in February 2018, due to the federations handling of the equal pay dispute.

Cordeiro argued that women did not deserve the same pay as men and they had less skill and responsibility, causing major backlash.

The federation will potentially bid for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with Cordeiro in support of this.

“We should also aspire to bring other global events to America in the coming years, such as a FIFA Futsal World Cup and a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.” Cordeiro said.

“It could be transformative – but only if we do it right and make sure that this opportunity truly benefits everyone across our Federation.” He continued.
