FC fighter, Conor McGregor is Forbes’ highest paid athlete for 2021 thanks in large part to the sale of his Whiskey company, Proper No. Twelve.

McGregor sold a majority stake of his business at the end of April, in a deal reportedly worth US$600 million.

According to Forbes, McGregor made US$180 million in the last 12 months, with US$150 million coming from his Whiskey deal with Proximo Spirits.

McGregor’s return to the Octagon in January this year earnt him an estimated US$22 million, despite losing to Dustin Poirier, Forbes reports.

With his new-found wealth, McGregor has floated the idea of buying a football team tweeting his interest in Scotland’s Celtic, or England’s Manchester United, a team whose fans want owners, the Glazer family out.

“I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage, McGregor tweeted.

“Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure…

“I feel I could do big things for a club,” McGregor said on Twitter.
