Basketball Australia has announced current Melbourne Boomers general manager, Christy Collier-Hill, will be appointed the new head of the WNBL.

Collier-Hill is also currently a member of the 2022 FIBA Womens’ Basketball World Cup marketing and communications advisory committee.

Collier-Hill will be leaving her post at the Melbourne Boomers in mid-January.

Collier-Hill joined the Boomers in 2019 and oversaw the club rebrand, the Boomers Academy reboot and the launch of Boomers Online Academy.

Her time also saw membership and sponsorship growth year on year, a Boomers documentary being commissioned, and the introduction of the 3×3 Corporate Cup to be debuted in February 2022.

Basketball Australia CEO, Matt Scriven, showed support for the welcoming of Collier-Hill.

“Christy is a highly respected sports administrator who is well placed to drive the growth strategy of the WNBL,” Scriven said.

“Christy has a strong commercial and operational background and with her passion for creating opportunities for women in sport it’s an exciting time for the WNBL.

“We look forward to welcoming her to the team,” he said.

Regarding the announcement, Christy Collier-Hill said: “I’m extremely pleased to join the team at Basketball Australia, having been part of the WNBL family this appointment is a great opportunity for me to continue to drive the profile of women’s sport.”

“With the Women’s World Cup coming up next year, and a full WNBL season about to start it is a great time for women’s basketball and the opportunities are endless.

“I look forward to working closely with all the clubs as we embark on an exciting season of world-class basketball,” she said.

Collier-Hill will start her new position on January 17, replacing Lauren Jackson.
