Chiefs Esports Club And Bond University Formalise Education Partnership

Bond University will become the official education partner of The Chiefs Esports Club after formalising a first of its kind alliance within the esports’ ANZ region.

The Chiefs and Bond University have agreed to a three-year collaboration to expand both group’s understanding of the esports and gaming landscape while using their existing knowledge to help develop the domestic esports industry.

The Chiefs will work with Bond University to create an esports and gaming framework that encompasses courses, student engagement, research and development, and talent identification methods and pathways within esports.

The club will also provide internship placements to students within the Bond esports community, assisting in their development and understanding of the industry.

Nick Bobir, CEO of The Chiefs Esports Club, said he hoped the new partnership would create opportunities for progression for local esport talents.

“It is great to be able to partner with an institution such as Bond University whose outlook and optimism for the growth of esports and gaming in Australia closely aligns to our own,” Mr Bobir said.

“Through this partnership, we look to be able to provide growth and education pathways for the wider esports and gaming community.”

Garry Nucifora, Executive Director of Sport at Bond University, said partnering with The Chiefs will provide the university’s Esports Hub with credible and expert guidance moving forward.

“Having the Chiefs’ expertise in helping us develop our esports landscape at Bond University is really advantageous,” Mr Nucifora said.

“This is just the beginning of where we want to take esports.

“We want to be able to say come to Bond University and we’ll teach you about the business of esports.”

“A player or two may emerge but we are really focused on the education aspect of esports.”

In 2019, Bond University launched a high-performance Esports Hub devoted to competitive video-gaming as part of the Bond Elite Sports Program.
