CBS Sports CEO David Berson to Lead TNT Sports

The landscape of international sports broadcasting has experienced a corporate overhaul following the closure of the massive multi-billion-dollar merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Amid the structural consolidation of media assets, Luis Silberwasser, chairman and chief executive officer of TNT Sports, is stepping down as the organisation integrates its sporting divisions under unified leadership.

David Berson, current president and chief executive officer of CBS Sports, has been appointed to helm the newly established global sports group, taking executive control over an extensive portfolio of marquee media rights across all domestic and international territories.

The transaction unifies a sprawling array of high-value broadcasting properties under a single corporate umbrella, including National Football League fixtures, the NCAA March Madness tournament, college football, National Hockey League matches, Major League Baseball, and The Masters.

Silberwasser communicated his impending exit to internal staff via formal correspondence prior to the formalisation of the corporate combination. In his note to personnel.

“I am writing to let you know that, with the closing of the Paramount–WBD merger, I will be departing the company as TNT Sports and CBS Sports come together under new leadership,” he said.

Having assumed leadership of TNT Sports in 2022 following tenure at Univision, Silberwasser navigated a period for the network, most notably steering strategic program adjustments after Warner Bros. Discovery concluded its long-standing broadcast relationship with the National Basketball Association. Despite the loss of live basketball rights, Silberwasser successfully negotiated multi-year agreements to sublicense College Football Playoff fixtures and broadcast premier events such as NASCAR races, the French Open, and All Elite Wrestling, which protected vital commercial distribution fees.

Following the transaction, Berson assumes operational oversight of the combined sports enterprise, facing the critical commercial challenge of evaluating the extensive programming inventory to service nearly eighty billion dollars in inherited corporate debt.
