Catapult Launches Technology For Ice Hockey Video Analysis

Sports technology solutions company, Catapult, has revealed their next-generation video analysis tool, which was originally built for Formula One, has been adapted for ice hockey, progressing the future of video analysis for the sport.

After establishing a relationship with the National Hockey League and working with 250 teams in eight countries, Catapult will provide them with their ‘Thunder’ tool, which gives organisations the ability to capture, tag, and present multi-angle video and data during live matches.

The hub’s cloud-based playlists and presentations will also provide teams with the chance to share insights across department silos from any location and in real-time, including during games and in-between periods.

Commenting on the innovation, Catapult CEO, Will Lopes, said: “We are improving our speed of innovation and bringing new solutions to teams and leagues faster and more efficiently than ever before.”

“We look forward to bringing this first-of-its-kind solution to more sports, including American football, over the next year.

“Catapult solutions have been trusted by the best athletes on ice for more than two decades.

“Our hockey-specific and even position-specific metrics for athlete monitoring have been developed directly from the insights of the most elite hockey teams in the world.

“I’m proud that we can continue to bring a robust pipeline of innovation to the sport of hockey,” he said.

Additionally, Catapult’s GameTracker technology will provide teams with a new suite of tools, where they can visualise performance data to unlock a deeper level of insight.

The announcement comes after Catapult CEO, Will Lopes, broke down the company’s partnership with the AFL.
