Basketball star, Carmelo Anthony, is partnering with Isos Capital co-presidents and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) board members, Michelle Wilson and George Barrios, to launch a US$750 million sports private equity fund.
The Isos7 Growth Equity Fund will be focused on seeking sports team ownership, including minority investments in leagues and sports-adjacent businesses in North America, Europe, and Asia.
The partnership is aiming to utilise their professional network to capitalise on the convergence of sports, media, and entertainment.
According to a recent investment deck reviewed by Sportico, roughly 90% of the funds will be dedicated to global blue-chip team and league investments, in a bid to leverage Isos Capital’s operational expertise.
Co-partners Wilson and Barrios, former WWE executives for more than a decade, formed the Isos Acquisition company in 2021, raising more than US $225 million post IPO.
While, Anthony adds this partnership atop of a resume of consumer internet ventures, including his capital firm, Melo7 Tech.
This announcement comes after Mat Ishbia’s $4 billion bid to acquire the Phoenix Suns was approved by the NBA.
