Bulldogs Lose $2 Million Sponsorship Deal In Wake Of Player Sex Scandal

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs were on the verge of announcing a $2 million major sponsorship deal with family restaurant chain Rashays before the schoolgirl sex scandal rocked the NRL club this week.

The Bulldogs were set to announce the two-year deal on Tuesday night, having agreed to terms with Rashays after long-time sponsor Kia left the club for the Brisbane Broncos this year, The Herald reported.

Two of the clubs players, Corey Harawira-Naera and Jayden Okunbor, have been stood down for having consensual sex with two high school girls they met in Port Macquarie.

Although there is no criminal investigation, as the girls were above the age of consent, the players breached the team’s policy, which states that women aren’t to be brought back to the hotel.

It’s believed the Bulldogs then contacted Rashays to inform them of the incident before the restaurant chain pulled out of the deal.

Canterbury had spent the off-season searching for a major sponsor, with captain Josh Jackson appearing at last week’s NRL launch as the only club representative wearing a jersey without a sponsor.

With the Bulldogs due to play the first round of the 2020 NRL season this Thursday, it’s likely the club will now be without a major sponsor.
