The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) are locked in a battle with official blockchain partner Bitci after the company defaulted.

According to reports from Maquina do Esporte, the CBF had not received payments for several months, and decided to terminate the sponsorship contract.

Bitci had rights to licences and likenesses and had produced a range of CBF blockchain products, which are still available.

CBF claims that the termination of the contract means Bitci cedes the rights to CBF products, but Bitci is marketing the products as valid.

According to Sports Pro Media, Bitci believe the contract has yet to be terminated, with a statement from Bitci reading: “The contracts between the Brazilian national team and Bitci are valid and in force. There has been no notice of termination to Bitci.”

Bitci have already defaulted on other sponsorship deals, but maintains their CBF fan tokens will still be valid, quoting: “Even if the sponsorship agreement somehow ends, this does not change the reality that BFT is the legitimate and only Brazilian national team fan token.”

The CBF is yet to take legal action.

In other news, the CBF have announced that they will support the pride group, Arco-Iris, with sponsorship of pride marches and actions plans to end homophobia in football.

They also recently partnered with OneFootball.
