Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league is set to make its Australian debut this November, marking a significant addition to the Australian sports calendar.
This will be the league’s first foray into Australia, following successful international events in locations such as the Bahamas, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Since its establishment in 2017, the BIG3 has rapidly evolved into a prominent platform for former NBA and international players, providing an opportunity for them to showcase their talents in a unique format.
The arrival of this league on Australian soil presents a fresh and exciting prospect for local basketball enthusiasts.
The event is being organised in partnership with the National Basketball League (NBL), signalling the beginning of what both entities are optimistic will develop into a long-term collaboration.
On the league come to Australia, BIG3 co-CEO, Ice Cube, said: “This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime event. We’ve wanted to bring our players to compete on the international stage for years, and we can’t think of a better place to do just that than in Australia among some of the best basketball fans in the world.”
“The energy, culture, and love for basketball in Australia is astounding, making it a perfect fit for us. What the NBL has done to grow the game is incredible and together with GameAbove, we see no limit to this partnership,” he said.
Looking ahead, the 2025 BIG3 season is scheduled to commence on June 14, with the Australian event planned for five months later, promising to electrify local fans with the unique brand of basketball that the league offers.
