Betting Giant Quits Sponsorship Of Australian Sports Teams

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, Entain, parent company of sports betting organisations Ladsbrokes and Neds, will be stepping away from jersey sponsorship with Australian teams following an increase in opposition to the controversial partnerships.

It is expected that this step is the first part of a concentrated effort by Entain to scale back partnerships with sports teams in Australia.

Ladbrokes and Neds branding has appeared on a range of AFL and NRL teams in the past, including the Brisbane Broncos, who saw it’s $7.5 million deal with Ladbrokes axed in July following a change in the Queensland Government’s point of consumption tax to include free and bonus bets.

Australian Racing will not be affected by this move, with it’s extensive partnership with Ladbrokes to remain.

The move away from Australian jersey sponsorships by the British firm follows a change in government regulations announced on Monday, ditching the phrase ‘gamble responsibly’ by March 2023, with lines prompting prospective betters to consider the consequences of losing a bet to be introduced across TV, video, digital, radio, print and social media advertisements.

Lines allowed by the new regulations include, ‘Chances are you’re about to lose’, ‘Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?’, and ‘what are you prepared to lose? Set a deposit limit’.

The move follows the recent extension of Ladbrokes’ partnership with the Mooney Valley Racing Club.
