The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has appointed four new commissioners to its board, further strengthening its leadership at a pivotal time for Australian sport.
Olympian and Matildas veteran Lydia Williams, sports administrator Andrew Purchas OAM, governance expert Dr Chloe Flutter, and Indigenous leader Selwyn Button will join the ASC, bringing diverse expertise across elite sport, policy, and community engagement.
Williams’ experience as a professional footballer and two-time Olympian provides the ASC with valuable insight into athlete pathways. Purchas, known for his work in rugby and LGBTQ+ inclusion, has a track record in driving diversity initiatives in sport. Dr Flutter brings strategic expertise in governance and policy, while Button’s experience in Indigenous education and community leadership will be critical in expanding sporting opportunities for First Nations athletes.
The ASC’s latest appointments come as Australia prepares for major international sporting events, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Strengthening leadership at this level is crucial to ensuring sustainable growth and investment in Australian sport.
