he 2022 Australian Commonwealth Games Team has named its first official partner ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with international sporting brand Macron signing on.
As part of the deal, Macron will become the official competition and training wear partner of the Commonwealth Games Team, with the team uniform set to be unveiled in 2022.
Commonwealth Games Australia CEO, Craig Phillips, said he is excited to welcome an international brand in Macron ahead of the Birmingham Games.
“The enthusiasm Macron has already shown in the development of competition and training wear for our team in Birmingham demonstrates their commitment to ensure our athletes have everything they need to perform at their best,” Phillips said.
“Outfitting a team of 400 athletes, plus officials, across the 19 sports and all the different events is no easy task and Macron have shown through their long history in Europe and their work across many sporting teams and leagues, including here in Australia, their enthusiasm for working in high performance sport,” he said.
Macron chief executive, Gianluca Pavanello, said: “We enjoy our partnerships with our sporting clubs in Australia’s national leagues such as the AFL, NRL, and A-League, however this will be the first time the Macron Hero Logo will be seen on the competition and training wear for a national team at a multi-sport Games.”
“It is a significant step forward for us and we look forward to providing the best possible performance wear for Australia’s best athletes,” Pavanello said.
Australian Team chef de mission, Petria Thomas, said the initial designs for the uniforms are exciting.
“I can’t say too much about what the competition uniforms will look like, but what I can say is that they will be green and gold… they are our colours on the international sporting field so from our team standpoint it’s a non-negotiable,” Thomas said.
“There are some critical factors we will take into consideration in designing the uniform, that it’s fit for purpose, it looks good, and that it’s distinctly Australian,” she said.
The partnership was secured by Commonwealth Games Australia’s exclusive partnership agency, SPORTFIVE.
SPORTFIVE managing director for Australia and New Zealand and senior vice president of global sales, Damien Moston, said: “We are absolutely thrilled Macron is supporting our Australian Commonwealth Games Team for Birmingham.”
“The value of a partnership with the Australian Commonwealth Games Team continues to resonate with potential partners and we look forward to working with Macron to deliver a great result for our athletes in Birmingham,” Moston said.
The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games are currently scheduled to take place from 28 July to 8 August 2022.
