Australia To Allow Crowds Of 10,000 From July

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has announced the approval of a plan for crowds of up to 10,000 people to be allowed into sports stadiums from July.

The plan would apply only to stadiums with a capacity of 40,000 or under, with all fans required to be seated with social distancing rules in place, with attendance limited to 25 per cent of the venue’s relative capacity.

Speaking after a National Cabinet meeting, Morrison said all Australian states and territories were on track to implement the changes from July.

“It would have to be a large, open area,” Morrison said.

“There would need to be seats at the appropriate distance.

“It would need to be ticketed, so people would be able to understand who was in attendance at that event.

“When you’re up above 40,000, you’ve got more than 10,000 people going to a gathering, that has implications for the egress and access of and to those premises, public transport crushes, all those sorts of things.

“That will require much more significant work,” he said.

While the National Cabinet has approved the plan, Morrison said the specific details involved with the final approval are still being worked out in conjunction with chief health officers around Australia.
