Netball Queensland and the Queensland Firebirds have officially finalised a major long-term commercial renewal with Australia’s largest rail freight business, Aurizon, extending their principal partnership through to the end of 2029.
Under the newly signed agreement, the transport corporation will maintain its dual inventory roles as the Principal Partner of the elite Queensland Firebirds Suncorp Super Netball franchise and Major Partner of the state’s governing body, Netball Queensland.
The renewal was formally announced by Netball Queensland CEO Kate Davies and Aurizon head of corporate affairs Paul Cronin at the sold-out Suncorp Super Netball local derby between the Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning at Nissan Arena.
Aurizon initially joined the netball organization’s commercial family as Principal Partner in 2021. Over the initial five-year lifecycle of the agreement, the corporate investment has targeted distinct, measurable key performance indicators for the rail freight company, focusing heavily on driving national brand awareness, increasing direct female workforce participation within the traditionally male-dominated heavy industry sector, and engineering highly effective staff engagement opportunities across its extensive regional operations.
The commercial activation program is anchored by several distinct operational frameworks and consumer-facing stadium assets:
The foundational cornerstone of the agreement is the continuation of the annual Aurizon Regional Tours, which deploy elite Firebirds players and high-performance coaching staff to deliver grassroots netball clinics and localised community engagement initiatives across regional Western Australia and rural Queensland networks.
The partnership structure leverages Aurizon’s expansive regional footprint to create direct recruitment marketing channels, showcasing heavy machinery career paths and trade opportunities directly to young female athletes and families.
The renewal guarantees the continuation of high-visibility matchday activations at Nissan Arena, including the flagship “Aurizon $5K Play” stadium promotion, which recently awarded a $5,000 cash prize to a registered Firebirds member during a Round 11 home fixture against the West Coast Fever.
