Western Sydney Wanderers FC has announced the appointment of Andy Cornish as chair of the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee, marking a significant move for the club as it seeks to enhance its community engagement initiatives.
Cornish, a lifelong football enthusiast, was a crucial figure in the foundation of the Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club in 2012, and his return is anticipated to bolster the Foundation’s efforts to make impactful contributions within the Western Sydney community.
A native of the United Kingdom, Cornish brings a vast array of leadership experience from various sectors, where he’s previously held the position of CEO at Green Flag, during which the company emerged as the inaugural sponsor of the English National Football Team.
His career also spans significant positions in the international insurance domain, with his most recent role being chief executive of personal insurance at IAG.
Notably, he was in charge when NRMA Insurance secured its status as the Wanderers’ founding Major Partner.
Since concluding his executive tenure, Cornish has dedicated himself to supporting disadvantaged communities in Western Sydney and beyond.
He is a co-founder of Larapinta Connect, a program aimed at helping leaders and executives discover their purpose and legacy through an immersive journey along the Larapinta Trail.
Additionally, Cornish is currently serving as Chairperson for ANCAP Safety and holds directorships with Avant Insurance Limited and The Doctor’s Health Fund.
As chair of the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee, Cornish will spearhead efforts to raise funds that will enhance the club’s charitable initiatives.
Established in 2020, the Wanderers Foundation is focused on creating a significant positive change in Western Sydney through targeted programs aimed at Youth Development, promoting Healthy Active Lifestyles, encouraging female football participation, facilitating Multicultural Engagement, supporting indigenous communities, and advocating for all abilities.
Commenting on his appointment, Cornish, added: “I am incredibly proud to be appointed as the Chair of the Wanderers Foundation Development Committee.”
“The Foundation plays a vital role in creating opportunities and making a positive impact within the Western Sydney community.
I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated team to build on the great work already being done, and I look forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of the Foundation.
“Together, we will ensure the Wanderers’ legacy extends beyond football and into the hearts of our community,” he said.
Scott Hudson, CEO of Western Sydney Wanderers, added: “Andy Cornish has been an integral part of the Wanderers’ journey since the very beginning, and we are thrilled to have him lead the Foundation’s Development Committee.”
“His wealth of experience, leadership, and passion for community impact make him the perfect person to drive the Foundation forward.
“Under Andy’s guidance, we are confident that the Wanderers Foundation will continue to grow and positively impact the lives of people in Western Sydney,” he said.
With Cornish at the helm of the Foundation, the Western Sydney Wanderers are poised to further their commitment to community engagement, ensuring their impact resonates far beyond the pitch.
