Amazon secures streaming rights for English Premier League

Amazon has just inked a deal with English Premier League to broadcast live and exclusive Premier League matches and weekly highlights packages on Prime Video in the UK at no extra cost to a Prime membership.

Amazon, which is increasingly pushing beyond its e-commerce origins, won rights on Thursday to broadcast Premier League games in Britain for the first time.

UK Prime members will have exclusive access to watch 20 matches per season from 2019.

Amazon’s deal highlights the seismic shifts happening in sports and television entertainment, as digital streaming outlets compete with traditional broadcasters like NBC, Disney and, in Europe, Sky.

The Premier League joins Prime Video’s growing stable of live sports, including US Open Tennis, ATP World Tour Tennis events and NFL games, all currently available to watch on Prime Video in the UK at no extra cost to a Prime membership.
