The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has expanded its Mental Fitness Program in collaboration with the Black Dog Institute, aiming to educate over 35,000 high school students across Australia in 2024. Through this partnership, athletes such as Rebecca Henderson and Nick Lavery share personal stories and evidence-based mental health strategies.
The Black Dog Institute provides scientifically backed resources to support these presentations, which focus on building resilience and promoting well-being. This initiative aligns with the AIS’s commitment to holistic athlete development and the broader goal of improving youth mental health.
The partnership effectively combines expert knowledge with relatable athlete experiences, making mental health discussions more accessible to young people. By addressing the importance of mental fitness alongside physical performance, the program aims to destigmatise mental health issues while equipping students with practical tools for managing their well-being. This expansion continues the AIS’s focus on fostering resilience, not just among athletes but also within the wider community.
Both the AIS and representatives from the Black Dog Institute will be presenting at the Ministry of Sport – Wellbeing in Sport Summit in Sydney on Wednesday 20th Nov. Full event details here
