A recent workshop focused on post-Olympic and Paralympic insights gathered high-performance sports leaders from a diverse range of countries, including the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Austria, and the Netherlands.

Facilitated by the Australian Sports Commission’s Matti Clements and Fiona de Jong, each of the 12 participating nations shared valuable perspectives, reflections, and learnings in anticipation of the upcoming Paris 2024 Games.

Commenting on the workshop, lead of the AIS Elite Training Centre (ETC), Fiona de Jong, highlighted the significance of sharing global best practices and addressing common challenges to reinforce athlete support across the globe.

This collaborative effort comes at a pivotal moment for Australia, as Brisbane prepares to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Executive general manager of AIS Performance, Matti Clements, added: “This workshop exemplifies that strategy in action,”

“It was evident that the investment in athlete well-being and rights is a universal priority among these leading sporting nations and vital for the future sustainability of sport,” Ms Clements commented.

The AIS ETC is positioned to leverage this period, aiming to maximise what has been termed the ‘green and gold decade’ for Australian sport.

The workshop underscored Australia’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for international athletes, fostering connections that may enhance training and competitive opportunities worldwide.
