AFL Victoria has announced an extension of its partnership with V/Line. The new three-year agreement was revealed at Southern Cross Station by AFL Victoria Head Greg Madigan and V/Line Acting Chief Executive Officer Josef Brennan. This extension continues V/Line’s support for country football into its third decade.
The announcement precedes the 2024 V/Line Cup, set to take place in September with over 600 participants, though the location has yet to be disclosed. The V/Line Cup, a prominent under-15s football carnival for boys and girls from country Victoria, has been sponsored by V/Line since 2004. It serves as a pathway to higher-level talent programs, such as the Coates Talent League, and for some players, it is a step toward a career in the AFL or AFLW.
Greg Madigan expressed gratitude for V/Line’s two-decade-long support, noting the opportunities it has provided for young footballers from regional areas to develop their skills in a high-level competition. He emphasized the importance of V/Line’s backing in making the V/Line Cup possible and looked forward to the continued partnership.
V/Line Acting CEO Josef Brennan highlighted the partnership’s impact, stating that over 100 players have been drafted into the AFL and AFLW since it began. He underscored V/Line’s commitment to community involvement and support for regional Victoria’s youth through the V/Line Cup.
The host city for the 2024 V/Line Cup will be announced soon. The previous four editions were held in Greater Shepparton, providing significant economic benefits to the northern Victoria region.
