AFL Members Given Four Options For 2020 Season

AFL members have been presented with four options regarding their 2020 season memberships, as the competition aims to restart on June 11.

While club members are still waiting for official comment on their memberships, the league has told AFL members they have the option to either maintain their memberships, convert to an absentee membership for $170, pause upcoming payments, or ask for a full refund and cancellation.

The AFL told members those who maintain their memberships through the season will be entitled to a 30 percent discount for their 2021 AFL membership fees.

The AFL Fans’ Association president, Gerry Eaman, said the association was satisfied with three of the four options, but the consequences of cancelling a membership are not impressive.

“The AFL has done a good job at providing different options for AFL members to consider,” Eaman said.

“We feel the first three options are fair, however the consequence of the full refund option, where your AFL membership is cancelled, is too harsh for gold members.

“There may be gold members who have been AFL members for over 20 years who will need to seek a full refund due to loss of income.

“Members such as these should have been allowed to pause their membership for 2020 rather than having it cancelled and losing entitlements they have built up after significant years of patronage.

“The $170 price of the absentee membership could also have been a bit lower,” he said.

The AFL told members they have up until August 31 to make a decision out of the four options.
