Adelaide Unveils $96 Million Circuit Design Ahead of 2027 MotoGP Debut

The official Adelaide street circuit set to host the Australian Grand Prix from 2027 has been unveiled by South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.

Valued at $96 million, the 4.13-kilometre, 15-corner circuit reimagines Adelaide’s historic Formula One layout, incorporating iconic sections such as Stag Corner, Rundle Road, Brewery Bend, and Dequetteville Terrace.

Secured through an agreement running initially through 2032, the event aims to project South Australia to a global television audience exceeding 630 million people while delivering long-term economic benefits.

Developing the world’s first city-centre MotoGP race required extensive collaboration between MotoGP, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, and local partners to balance high-speed spectacle with modern safety standards.

Emphasising the planning involved in the infrastructure project, Deputy CEO of MotoGP Group, Carlos Ezpeleta, said: “We have spent many months working closely with the FIM and our colleagues in Adelaide to design a MotoGP circuit that is both exciting and, most importantly, safe.”

“We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and confident it will deliver a totally new and exciting experience for our riders, teams and fans.

“From day one, we’ve worked closely with local stakeholders to ensure the circuit delivers positive outcomes for the community and the environment, as well as world-class racing.

“We understand a project of this scale will create some disruption, but our goal is for the people of Adelaide to feel proud to host MotoGP and genuinely connected to the event,” Ezpeleta said

Beyond race weekend, the roadmap positions the precinct as a catalyst for urban renewal and public space enhancements.

Reflecting on the historical legacy of motorsport in the region, Premier Malinauskas highlighted the cultural and economic significance of returning elite racing to the city streets.

“For more than 40 years, the Adelaide street circuit has generated some of the most famous images in motor sport.”

“In its new era, we will deliver something truly world class – blending speed, safety and spectacular racing for both MotoGP and Supercars that will bring tens of thousands of visitors to our city and state, and project South Australia to a global audience of more than 630 million people,” Malinauskas noted.
