Adelaide teams join ‘The Power of Her’ Initiative to Support Women in Sport

In a dynamic initiative dedicated to celebrating women’s sports, the South Australian government has collaborated with six prominent women’s teams from national competitions to introduce ‘The Power of Her’.

This forward-thinking project utilises innovative approaches such as unique ticketing and membership offers, as well as marketing and communications collaborations among the six participating teams. Their collective aim is to invigorate women’s sports events by drawing larger and more engaged crowds.

The six teams participating in this initiative are AFLW’s Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide FC, WNBL outfit Adelaide Lightning, Suncorp Super netball champions Adelaide Thunderbirds, A-League Women’s Adelaide United and last summer’s WBBL winners Adelaide Strikers.

Long-serving Strikers batter Bridget Patterson has thrown her full support behind The Power of Her. As a championship-winning athlete, she exudes optimism regarding the initiative’s potential to further propel the growth of women’s sports.

“The momentum behind women’s sport in recent years is only getting stronger, and initiatives like this will continue to put female athletes in the spotlight, which will then see more and more talented players and passionate fans coming into our sports,” Patterson said.

“It is amazing to stand alongside players from other sporting codes today and commit to working together to promote women’s sport across not just South Australia but the country.”

Patterson also encouraged fans to broaden their horizons.

“Get down to support your team this season, but also think about trying something new. There is so much amazing sport being played across South Australia, and I look forward to seeing you there.”

All participating clubs will be actively motivating their members and fans to attend a selected game from another team, fostering cross-team support. The ultimate goal is to attract as many fans as possible to women’s sports events throughout South Australia.

Several clubs have already begun announcing their chosen games for The Power of Her, including the Strikers’ WBBL clash with Perth Scorchers on November 24 at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide Crows have taken a proactive approach by offering AFLW members a complimentary ticket to Adelaide United’s A-League Women’s match against Canberra United at Hindmarsh Stadium this Sunday. The Crows are also introducing a two-for-one AFLW membership and urging supporters to attend their upcoming clash against North Melbourne on October 29.
