The Adelaide 36ers have formalised a partnership with TAFE SA, aiming to illuminate the range of affordable, quality vocational education and training options available in South Australia.

As this partnership unfolds, the demand for skilled workers in both existing and emerging industries escalates, underscoring the urgent need to address skills shortages and expand the skilled workforce within the state.

Expressing enthusiasm about the partnership, TAFE SA’s Executive Director for Operations, Graham Rix, said: “We are delighted to have entered this partnership with the Adelaide 36ers, one of the state’s most popular sporting teams.”

“The partnership provides the opportunity to promote the pathways that exist for the future workforce in South Australia, raising awareness of TAFE SA programs throughout the community,” Rix said.

Chief Executive of the Adelaide 36ers, Nic Barbato, added: “There is a real synergy between the Adelaide 36ers and TAFE SA through our shared values.”

“The Adelaide 36ers are always striving for on-court excellence while making an impact in the community through inclusion, engagement, and creating opportunities for all,” Barbato said.

Sharing his excitement regarding the initiative, Minister for Education, Training and Skills, Blair Boyer, concluded: “As an average amateur basketballer myself, I am incredibly excited about the opportunities that the TAFE SA and Adelaide 36ers partnership will bring.”

Boyer highlighted the urgent need for approximately 78,000 VET qualifications over the next five years to satisfy industry skill requirements, advocating for innovative approaches to attract individuals into these careers.

TAFE SA is positioned as a vital contributor in this attempt, tasked with addressing skill gaps and supporting individuals looking to train, retrain, or upskill.

The institution offers an array of 285 courses across 30 campuses and training locations throughout South Australia, led by expert lecturers dedicated to ensuring that graduates emerge job-ready.

Under this new agreement, TAFE SA will be prominently involved in the Adelaide 36ers’ Tradie and Defence Rounds, events designed to spotlight critical growth sectors in the region.

Furthermore, TAFE SA’s collaboration will extend to the Indigenous Round in NBL26, along with its support for a clinic hosted by the Adelaide 36ers catering to individuals of diverse abilities.

TAFE SA’s prominence in the education sector was recently reinforced when it was awarded Australia’s Large Training Provider of the Year for 2024 at the Australian Training Awards, further solidifying its reputation as a leading institution in vocational education and training.
