Ace Hardware Becomes MLB’s Home Improvement Retailer

In a notable development within the sports sponsorship landscape, Ace Hardware has officially become Major League Baseball’s (MLB) latest sponsor, marking the re-entry of the home improvement and hardware retail sector after a hiatus of nearly 25 years.

This partnership grants Ace Hardware the title of “Official Hardware and Home Improvement Retailer,” a designation that underscores its commitment to aligning with MLB’s significant cultural footprint.

As part of this agreement, Ace secures pass-through rights for its vendors, a common practice in retail sponsorship arrangements, enabling them to leverage the partnership for promotional purposes.

With an approximate 5,000 retail locations across the United States, Ace Hardware is poised to integrate its new rights with MLB’s iconic imagery, specifically promoting its YardRX lawn-care subscription service.

The initiative will be supported by a bespoke digital platform and point-of-sale solutions, although comprehensive media strategies involving MLB’s broadcasting partners are still under development.

The agreement was directly negotiated between Ace Hardware and MLB, with Publicis Sports providing consulting services throughout the process.

This partnership is significant for Ace, considering that, while many franchise locations engage in grassroots sports sponsorships, this marks their first substantial involvement with a major league property since they previously partnered with the PGA Tour ten years ago.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) rights will be incorporated into the deal.

However, details regarding potential agreements with individual teams or players have yet to be established, leaving room for further developments in the sponsorship scope.

As Ace Hardware steps into the spotlight within MLB, the collaboration reflects a broader trend of brands seeking to establish influential connections within the sports realm, potentially setting a precedent for future partnerships in the industry.
