The National Basketball League (NBL) has announced a community partnership with global men’s health charity Movember, designating the organisation as the league’s inaugural Impact Partner.
The collaborative initiative leverages the broad reach of professional basketball across Australia and New Zealand to promote mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and physical wellness among men and young boys.
NBL chief commercial officer, Samantha Green, emphasised the alignment between professional sport and community health engagement.
“Movember and the NBL are two organisations that like to challenge the way things are done, and have fun while doing it.”
“We both speak to young men and the families who support them, and we both want to make things better.
“Basketball brings people together like few things do, which makes it a natural place to start conversations that matter.
“Movember has changed the conversation on men’s health around the world, and we’re proud to partner with them as the league’s first Impact Partner,” Green said.
Movember director of partnerships, Kieran Ryan, highlighted the power of team sports in supporting youth and community resilience.
“Movember’s a team sport, and we’ve just signed an outstanding teammate in the NBL.
“Basketball is brilliant for young men and boys.
“It gets them moving, keeps them connected, and wraps them in a community who checks in if something’s not right.
“With the NBL, we’re on a shared mission to keep young people and their families in the game longer and help them be better equipped to handle whatever comes their way, both on and off the court,” Ryan said.
The partnership formally tipped off on Monday, 2 November 2026, during the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 regular season fixture between Melbourne United and the New Zealand Breakers at John Cain Arena.
The opening match-day campaign introduced the ‘PLAY IT LOUD, SAY IT LOUDER’ activation alongside a dedicated Mo-ment Against Silence, encouraging fans and local basketball communities to foster open conversations regarding mental health and personal well-being.
Under the agreement, the NBL and Movember will integrate digital fan activations, encouraging supporters to join the NBL Mo Space platform to participate in community fundraising efforts throughout the NBL27 season.
