Melbourne United and Trojan Tools have teamed up again to celebrate Indigenous Round last Sunday, October 26, with a community initiative saw through 50 young Indigenous basketballers from Bairnsdale and their families travel to Melbourne for a special gameday experience.
In partnership with Ricky Baldwin and the Koorie Basketball Academy, the Gunai Kurnai players will enjoy a pre-game clinic at John Cain Arena, attend a Melbourne United home game, and participate in an exclusive post-game Q&A with players.
Baldwin, whose roots trace back to the Lake Tyers Mission, said the initiative carries deep personal meaning.
“For many of these kids, it’s their first time at an NBL game. Opportunities like this inspire young Koorie kids to dream big and stay connected to their culture through sport.”
Trojan Tools brand & sponsorship manager, Genevieve Bolzon, said continuing the initiative after last season’s success in Shepparton was an easy decision.
“Championing community programs like this reflects Trojan’s values of giving back. Seeing the joy and inspiration it brings makes it something we’re proud to continue in NBL26 and beyond.”
Melbourne United CEO, Nick Truelson, added that the collaboration embodies the club’s mission.
“Our purpose is to use basketball to inspire, entertain and enrich lives. This round allows us to celebrate Indigenous culture and empower young athletes to chase their goals.”
