Greg Norman Ends Four-Year Tenure with LIV Golf

Greg Norman has officially closed his chapter with LIV Golf, announcing on Instagram that his four-year tenure with the Saudi-backed league has come to an end.

The 69-year-old Australian, known as “The Shark,” played an important role in LIV’s establishment, serving three years as CEO before stepping into a less public role in 2025.

Commenting on his departure, Norman, wrote: “Together, we built a movement that changed the game globally.”

“We created opportunities for both players and fans and broadened the ecosystem of golf. We truly globalized the game and expanded golf’s reach to fans around the world… It’s been an incredible chapter, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished,” Norman said.

During his leadership, LIV Golf expanded its team model from 12 to 13, increased its individual field from 48 to 54 players, and staged events in international markets including Adelaide, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The league also struck new sponsorship deals, secured a major TV contract, and positioned itself as a disruptive force in golf’s traditional structures.

Norman’s push for innovation and private equity investment also reverberated across the sport. Analysts credit LIV’s rise as a key factor in driving record purses on the PGA Tour, changing how professional golf is financed and presented.

A Smooth Tenureship

Norman frequently clashed with established golf bodies and made bold public claims about LIV’s dominance. Despite controversy, he remained adamant that his mission was “the right thing for golf, the players and fans.”

Since Scott O’Neil took over as CEO earlier this year, LIV Golf has entered what many describe as its “second phase.” O’Neil has focused on stabilizing operations, refining the schedule, and positioning the league for sustainable long-term growth. Meanwhile, the once highly publicized merger talks with the PGA Tour have stalled, leaving uncertainty over professional golf’s future structure.

Norman closed his farewell post by hinting at new ventures ahead, saying “stay tuned for what’s next — exciting times are ahead.”
