Paralympics Australia Appoints Kate Jones as Vice President

Paralympics Australia has appointed Kate Jones to the role of Vice President, boosting the organisation’s leadership bench as it ramps up long-term planning for Brisbane 2032 and prepares for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina 2026 and Los Angeles 2028.

A sitting board director since 2022, Jones brings cross-sector experience from sport, technology, and government. She is currently a Commissioner at the Australian Rugby League and a board director at the Tech Council of Australia. Previously, she served in the Queensland Parliament for more than a decade, including as Minister for State Development, Education, Tourism, and the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Her appointment signals a continued shift by Paralympics Australia to strengthen board-level governance and policy influence during a period of accelerated commercial and strategic activity. The organisation has been expanding its partnership portfolio while working closely with state and federal stakeholders to shape the Brisbane 2032 Games legacy.

“It’s a great privilege to contribute to the strategic direction of Paralympics Australia and the growth of the Paralympic Movement. As a proud Queenslander, this is an exciting time as we work to ensure Brisbane 2032 delivers world-class outcomes for Para-athletes,” Jones said.

Welcoming Jones in her appointment, and highlighting her dual expertise in public policy and sport, Paralympics Australia President Grant Mizens added, “Kate’s breadth of experience in government and national sport makes her an extremely valuable addition. Her leadership will be pivotal as we build towards Brisbane 2032,” he said.

Future-Facing Board Strategy

The leadership reshuffle follows the departure of Rebecca Frizelle from the board of Paralympics Australia.

Frizelle has joined the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee as an independent director, adding to the list of Paralympic-aligned appointees such as Mizens, Kurt Fearnley, and Robyn Smith. Frizelle had served on Paralympics Australia’s board since 2020 and was instrumental in guiding its People and Culture and Commercial Committees.

The board transition comes at a critical time, with Paralympics Australia balancing immediate operational preparations for international competition and longer-term infrastructure, pathway, and inclusion strategies aligned to the 2032 Games.

A review of board composition and future capability needs is expected, ensuring the organisation maintains strategic continuity while expanding its commercial reach and policy influence in the lead-up to Brisbane.
