Richmond Tigers Begin Jack Dyer Stand Construction

Construction has officially commenced on the new Jack Dyer Stand at Punt Road Oval, the historic home of the Richmond Tigers.

This redevelopment represents a multi-party investment aimed at establishing a premier training and administration facility, with substantial funding from the Victorian Government ($20 million), alongside contributions from the Australian Government, the AFL, and the Richmond Tigers Football Club.

Punt Road Oval, which has served as the Tigers’ spiritual home since 1885, is undergoing a major transformation designed to support the club’s future ambitions. According to Tigers’ CEO Shane Dunne, construction is already in progress and is projected for completion in 2027.

“We are incredibly grateful the Victorian Government shares our vision for this iconic site and our commitment to re-establish Punt Road Oval as a community asset and state-of-the-art facility for men’s and women’s sport,” Dunne stated.

For the Richmond AFLW team, coming off a finals appearance last season and a seventh-place finish, these new amenities are deemed crucial for continued performance and growth.

Dunne, added: “It’s a very exciting time for our Club and again, we thank the Victorian Government for their critical support along with the Federal Government, the AFL, and the generous contributions of major supporters and fans.”

The new Jack Dyer Stand is designed to integrate a range of features aimed at enhancing both player and spectator experiences. These include dedicated AFL/AFLW changerooms, enhanced player spaces, state-of-the-art recovery and strength and conditioning facilities, an underground car park, and a landscaped terrace.

Beyond the stand itself, the redevelopment will also involve expanding and realigning the oval to meet AFLW standards, coupled with improvements to lighting to ensure optimal conditions for both training and matches.

Community engagement remains a core focus of this project. Richmond’s partner organisations, such as the Korin Garmadji Institute, Bachar Houli Foundation, and Melbourne Indigenous Transition School, are set to benefit from upgraded facilities within the new development.

This initiative aligns with the Victorian Government’s broader commitment to promoting gender equity in sports, evidenced by its allocation of over $100 million to improve football facilities for women across the state. This investment is intended to benefit all 10 Victorian clubs while enhancing community sporting infrastructure.
