Mitchell Starc delivered the fastest five-wicket haul in test history as Australia clinched a commanding victory over the West Indies in the third Test at Sabina Park, Jamaica, on Sunday.

The left-arm fast bowler claimed a record-breaking six-wicket haul, surpassing Dennis Lillee’s all-time national record and becoming Australia’s leading wicket-taker in Test matches against the West Indies.

The visitors needed just 91 minutes on day three to wrap up the match, securing the series 2-1 and reaffirming their dominance following a surprise defeat in the second Test.

Test history for Starc

Starc’s 104th wicket against the West Indies overtook Lillee’s longstanding record of 103. The left-armer now stands third overall for the most wickets by an Australian in Tests, behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Speaking post-match, Starc described the record as “a humbling milestone” and credited his teammates for their consistent support across the series.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite acknowledged his side’s disappointment, citing poor shot selection and a lack of composure under pressure.

“Credit to Australia, they applied relentless pressure. We’ve got work to do,” Brathwaite said. The home side’s previous lowest total was 47 against England in 2004.

Series Summary

Australia won the first Test in Adelaide comfortably before suffering a shock defeat in Brisbane. This resounding victory offered a timely confidence boost ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final next month.
