DWF, a global legal business with over 2,800+ staff delivering services across 27 locations and 4 continents, has partnered with Ministry of Sport to become the latest major partner for the 2019 Women In Sport Summit.
Dubbed “one of Europe’s most innovative firms” by the Financial Times, DWF’s Australian team also boasts market-leading sector and industry expertise and their specialist Sports Law Group delivers expertise across a broad range of sporting disciplines, working with sporting bodies, teams, and investors in support of Sport Australia’s ‘Sport 2030’ National Sport Plan, with a strong focus on delivering sport integrity outcomes.
DWF Australia Principal Lawyer, David Reid, said: “2017 was a game changer for women’s sport in Australia and 2018 saw further growth for the pathway to the development of dedicated and flourishing women’s sports leagues and competitions.
“DWF Australia is committed to assisting with the further growth and development of women in sport, as shown through our own seminars and client work in this important space, including our pro bono assistance recently provided to the ‘Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League’ with their media rights deal with Fox Sports.
“As such, we are delighted to sponsor the Ministry of Sport Women in Sport Summit in Melbourne on 7 March.”
“With so much commercial upside to women’s sport, we look forward to continuing the discussion and providing our sports law expertise to apply the learnings from recent successes in women’s sport in Australia, explore the new opportunities for stakeholders, and consider how to make women’s sport even bigger and better in 2019 and for the next generation of athletes and fans; hopefully leading to the day (soon) when we just talk about sport – for women, men, and non-binary/gender fluid athletes.”
David will be speaking at the Women in Sport Summit on the success of the Australian Women’s Basketball team, The Opals.
In addition to his sports law experience, David has direct sports governance experience as the Deputy Chairman of Basketball Australia (from 2017) and as Australia’s representative to the Board of FIBA Oceania (from 2016).
