97 Queensland Schools Set To Benefit From Queensland’s Go For Gold Fund

image

A significant investment of over $30 million is set to benefit 97 schools across Queensland by providing new or enhanced sporting infrastructure.

The initiative, facilitated through the Miles Government’s Go for Gold Fund, allows all Queensland schools, whether state or non-state, to apply for funding of up to $500,000 under Round 2 Category 1. This funding will support the development of infrastructure related to various sports such as basketball, softball, tennis, cricket, and track and field. Additionally, it will improve multi-purpose facilities designed for physical activities.

The aim of the fund is to prioritise locations, particularly outside south-east Queensland, to boost active pathways in communities with potentially lower student participation in sports. The successful allocation of funds to schools outside the metropolitan area underscores the government’s commitment to fostering sports participation statewide. More than half of the 97 selected schools are situated in regional or remote regions, showcasing inclusivity and a drive to encourage engagement in physical activities.

The Go for Gold Fund not only aims to enhance sports facilities but also to promote a culture of physical activity among students and their communities.

By improving access to quality infrastructure, the initiative seeks to elevate sports performance and readiness as Queensland gears up for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
