AFL Gather Round has concluded its second iteration, leaving a notable impact on grassroots football in South Australia. The newly established South Australian Football Facilities Fund, a collaboration between the Malinauskas Government, the AFL, and the SANFL, has announced its first round of grants. Nearly $2 million has been awarded to 42 community football clubs across regional and metropolitan South Australia to support and sustain the growth of AFL across the state.

Totalling $19 million, these grants will fund various infrastructure projects such as compliant change rooms, lighting upgrades, and improved playing surfaces across metropolitan and regional areas.

The investment aims to enhance facilities for players, volunteers, officials, and spectators while also fostering a more inclusive environment within community clubs, with increased female participation across AFLW and SANFLW underscoring the fund’s importance in accommodating a diverse football community.

With funds from the $8 million pool to be distributed over the next two years, anticipation is high for the next round of grants in August 2024.
