NBC Sports Premier League Viewership Down 10%

NBC Sports’ coverage of the English Premier League (EPL) recorded a 10.3% fall in average US viewership over the course of the 2020/21 season.

NBC averaged 414,000 viewers per match window this season which is the NBC’s lowest average since acquiring the league rights in 2013.

However, this does not factor in Spanish-language or Peacock digital broadcasts.

When factored in, the NBC’s commercial network’s total audience delivery increased by 2% to an average of 879,000 viewers with eight NBC and NBC Sport Network (NBCSN) EPL matches averaging over one million viewers.

The coverage of the EPL will change next season in America as NBC announced earlier this year the NBCSN will halt operations by the end of 2021.

Games will be broadcast on Peacock and the USA Network after the closure of the network as the NBC enters the last year of its six-year, USD$1 billion (AUD$1.29 billion) partnership with the Premier League.

Earlier this month the EPL unanimously agreed to a three-year renewal with various broadcast partners in a deal worth AUD$9 billion.
