Western Australia has hosted the 2026 World Squash Masters Championships in Perth, drawing over 900 international and domestic athletes across 55 participating countries.
Organised in collaboration with World Squash, Squash Australia, Squash WA, Tourism Western Australia, the City of Stirling, and Sports Marketing Australia (SMA), the eight-day global event delivered more than $6 million in direct visitor expenditure to the local economy while competing across 21 age divisions ranging from 35+ to 85+.
Highlighting the economic impact generated by major international sporting events for host destinations, Sports Marketing Australia director, Jason Sleeman, said: “The championships generated significant visitor nights and tourism expenditure across the city.”
“The scale and international reach demonstrated the real benefits that sporting events deliver.
“Congratulations to Squash Australia, World Squash, Squash WA, Tourism Western Australia, the City of Stirling, Karrinyup Shopping Centre and everyone involved in bringing this major international championship to Perth,” Sleeman said.
The multi-venue tournament ran from 30 August to 6 September 2026, featuring over 1,800 matches staged across three dedicated locations.
To maximise commercial exposure and public engagement, an all-glass show court was constructed in the center of Karrinyup Shopping Centre.
Secondary court allocations were distributed across local sports facilities, including four courts at Mirrabooka Squash Centre and eight courts at Belmont Squash Centre.
To accommodate the influx of international and interstate traveling cohorts, SMA negotiated commercial hotel partnerships offering discounted rates at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough, Quest Scarborough, and Quest Perth Ascot.
