US Broadcaster, ESPN, has announced the most recent season of Formula 1 (F1) has shattered the record set last year, up 28% to an average audience of 1.21 million viewers.
In addition to being the most viewed season ever in the US, ESPN said 352,000 women tuned in each race, up 34% on 2021 and averaged 28% of the 2022 audience.
12 of the 22 races saw event viewership records broken:
- Bahrain – 1.353 million average viewers
- Saudi Arabian – 1.445 million
- Miami (new event) – 2.583 million
- Spanish – 1.14 million (largest live version)
- British – 1.239 million
- Austrian – 1.1 million
- Hungarian – 1.23 million
- Belgian – 1.03 million
- Dutch – 1.14 million
- Italian – 995K (largest live version)
- Singapore – 1.036 million
- Brazilian – 1.4 million (largest live version)
Additionally, the Monaco Grand Prix and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix both broke their live cable audience records, with 17 races drawing over 1 million average viewers.
Looking at age demographics, viewership between the ages of 12 and 17 increased 49% from 2021, which was also the largest of any age group.
In other groups, viewership between 18-34 grew by 43%, while the 25-34 age group increased by 46% compared to 2021.
Finally, F1 qualifying sessions drew in 554,000 viewers on average, up 17% from the 475,000 last year.
The broadcast figures from the 2022 F1 Championship comes after ESPN extended their broadcast partnership with the motorsport series.
