2022 Australian F1 Grand Prix Tourism Gets Boost

he 2022 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is being used a tourism campaign for Victoria, in an effort to bring much needed tourists to its regional towns.

The event is expected to bring over 400,000 people across the four day event, giving a much needed economic boost to the state.

Crowds this size have not been seen in Australian since 2019, pre-COVID.

With people able to travel freely throughout the state, regional travel will be promoted to help boost local economy and encourage regional travel and investment.

The Yarra Valley, Great Ocean Road, Grampians, Phillip island and Melbourne its self, are among the five regions highlighted in the promotion.

Visit Victoria CEO, Brendan McClements said “no one hosts sporting and major events like Victoria, and the new fan precincts are a fantastic way to showcase the best of everything the state has to offer.”

McClements believes the Grand Prix is a great way to put Victoria in the spotlight.

“From tasting tantalising food and renowned wine to music and live performances, we want Formula 1 crowds to get a taste of Victoria’s vibrant and diverse scenes and be inspired to get out and see the real thing for themselves.” McClements said

However, Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews says adults attending the event will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, except for children or those medically exempt.

“The reason for that is the virus will still be here” Andrews said.

Mandatory vaccination will also extend to competitors and staff.

“I’m not going to have people sitting in the grandstands having done the right thing only to have millionaire players who ought to be vaccinated running around the place being essentially at such higher risk of spreading this.” Andrews said

The event will be held from April 7th to April 10th  with presale tickets available November 23rd and general admission available from December 2nd.
