Women’s Open Prize Money Doubles to $10 Million

The golf US Women’s Open have announced the prize money doubling from US$5.5 million to US$10 million.

The winner of the event will take home US$1.8 million, however this is US$200,000 less than the prize taken home by a male winner.

This major increase in prize money comes from  a new long-term partnership with United States Golf Association (USGA) and ProMedica.

USGA chief executive Mike Whan, said: said USGA chief executive Mike Whan. “While I’m incredibly proud of what we are announcing today, I know this is just the beginning, as together with ProMedica, we’ll push to change the game and what it means to young women worldwide in order to reach new heights every year.”

ProMedica is an Ohio based healthcare company and is the offical health and wellbeing partner of the event.

“This partnership with ProMedica allows us to substantially grow the championship in every way, from its purpose, to its purse, to the places that host the event.” Whan said.

USGA is aiming to increase the prize money to US$12 million by 2026.

The new prize money will be up for grabs at the 2022 US Women’s Open in June.

ProMedica’s president and chief executive, Randy Oostra, said: “You simply cannot talk about improving the health and wellbeing of all individuals without talking about the disproportionate impact of social determinants of health on women.”
